Here's a Hug

I can't believe as I sit here that Christmas is less than a week away.  It really doesn't feel like it although I know I still have lots to do.  I think as the kids get older christmas loses some of its magic  every year which is a shame.  I think I need to find some new more adult like traditions to impose upon them. Something to plan for next year...

I have made a few cards this past couple of weeks and I have either not been happy with them or messed them up in some way so I took a few days off to try and regroup, the mojo was there but the creativity was a bit lackadaisical.   So this morning I sat down and made this little card, one I like and am happy to post. Yay for me!!!   I used stamps and Dies from Craftin Desert Divas Autumn Wishes collection and Stitched Scallop Die.  The paper is from Lili of the Valley's Sunnyside up Collection.  Just love this little scarecrow who I think would be hard pressed to scare anything.

Little Red Squirrel

This is one of the recently launched stamps from Lili of the Valley called Woodland Friends.  There is also a cute little hedgehog and mouse in this set along with some sentiments.  This is the little Woodland Friends squirrel .  I extended the branch a little so it met the edge of the card and added a few more hand drawn leaves. I do love these new LOTV stamps. They are so lovely to work with.  The paper is also LOTV from the Romance and Roses Collection.

Its only 15 days till Christmas,  wow 2015 has gone by so fast.  My two children become college seniors next year and it only seems like yesterday they were starting primary school.  I really need to get into Christmas mode before these 15 days disappear too.

Sending Sunshine

Although there is not a lot around today to send to you, sunshine is definitely on the horizon as we fast approach christmas.

I took advantage of the Black Friday Sales this year and one of the companies I have been in love with for a while now was offering up free shipping so who could resist...right!!!  This little card is made with some of the goodies I got from Craftin Desert Divas. Its so exciting to have supplies you admire from afar.  I really could have gone a little silly.

A bit of what you fancy

In other words....use something you love, whether it be a technique, an embellishment, a stamp or a colour.  That's the theme for the last Southern Girls Challenge for the year.  Its so hard to get my head around Christmas being 3 weeks away, but it is....yikes.

For Ewe!!

Lili of the Valley launched some great new stamps called Little Critters and this is one of the critters from the Farmyard Friends set.  The stamped sentiment also comes as part of this little set.  I masked off the sheep then popped the front one up for a little dimension, also gave her a cute little bow in her wool.   The die cut "Christmas Cheer" is foiled although its a little hard to get the shine to show in the photo.  All the Christmas cards I have made this year have been pretty non traditional and this one is no exception.

Birch the Bunny

Stacey Yacula stamps have been amongst my favourites for a long time now.  I really like her soft and whimsical style.  Her images are just so lovely to work with.  This cute little bunny is called "Birch", you have to love Stacey's names for her characters too.   That banner stamp has got to be one of my absolute favourites.

The gorgeous paper is from Lili of the Valley and is called Baskets and Bunnies, you guessed it, another favourite.  The dies I used are from Frantic Stamper, Stitched Rectangles and Scalloped Borders.  Final touch some matching die cut buttons and sequins.

Bake the world a better place...

If only it were that easy.  Still it is a wonderful sentiment for many reasons.

Firstly a big welcome to my new follower Noreen,  I hope you pop back to visit often.

The sentiment is from the lovely set called "Whisky Business" from SugarPea Designs.  It arrived on my doorstep a few days back and I have to confess I am a little bit in love with it.  I like to make baked goods to give as gifts at christmas and this will be perfect to make tags with.

In the meantime I wanted to play along with the SugarPea Sketch SPDSS32.

I stamped the sentiment twice but actually ended up cutting most of the second one off,  but some of it is there behind that cute little chef.  A scalloped border was added beneath the sentiment in pink gingham.  I was going for a sweet sugary look, hence pink and white.  The little accessory stamps in this set are just adorable, that's some you can see along the bottom.  The paper is from Lili of the Valley and is perfect for this stamp set.

Birthday Bugs

I made this card for the Paper Smooches  new monthly challenge.  The November challenge is Gold with this picture as inspiration.

Its quite a stunning picture right??  I really need to increase my Paper Smooches collection but I have so much trouble choosing that I usually choose nothing.  So I have to use what I have which is not a bad thing at all.  Certainly stretches the creativity.    I used the colours in the picture when I coloured the little butterflies, which are from the Flap Happy Set. My background is spritzed with pink spray which has a gold shimmer that unfortunately doesn't show in the photo.  The Paper Smooches sentiment is gold foiled and I added a strip of gold down one side.  Finishing touch,  some gold sequins. It's a happy little Happy Birthday card.

A week that will go down in history

I am still reeling from what happened in Paris. Its pretty hard to comprehend.  I can place myself like so many others in Paris.  Visiting the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, Montmartre or the Notre Dame Cathedral.  Sitting in a cafe or walking down the Champs Elysees.  It just doesn't seem right that such terrorism can occur in this place I can visit in my mind.   Antoine Leiris a Frenchman who lost his wife at the Bataclan, made a very passionate, widely publicised post on Facebook.  His words "you shall not have my hatred" have really stuck in my mind.

Today we also learned that Jonah Lomu passed away.  He was a much loved New Zealander.  An ex All Black whose career was cut short due to kidney disease.  He was an inspiration and role model to many.  An ambassador to Unicef and Patron to Kidney Kids NZ. He used to live not too far away from here and I remember many a morning having to give way to Jonah as he had right of way over me to get on the Motorway.  Him in his big flash BMW and me in my little Mazda.

The world has changed this week.

I hope you have popped over to Lili of the Valley and had a look at the new stamps that were released a few days back.  There are some very cute Little Critters and Little Folk stamps to be had.  All come with the added bonus of sentiments.  There are 16 to choose from.  I featured the little fishes a few posts back.  I am eagerly awaiting my order to arrive so expect to see some more very soon.

In the meantime here is a card I made using one of the Calendar Fairy stamps, this one is July.  The paper is a combination of Always and Forever and Butterfly Kisses.  She is coloured in pencil and I did an extra top wing and popped it up to add a little dimension.  I also popped the patterned paper up so it wasn't flat against the image.  The scalloped edge is a Frantic Stampers die that I am a little bit in love with.

Tucker the Snail

Cute name for a snail huh?  Tucker is a Stacey Yacula Stamp.  I have loved these stamps for such a long time now.  They are just all so cute and full of character.   I did a bit of masking here which I feel I am getting better at.  I haven't actually made a card in while without meeting a deadline or for something specific and I really enjoyed making this "just because".  That being said I have a good home for it.

Well it is starting to heat up over here.  This afternoon it's pretty hot, might be time to swap the long pants for skirts I think.    I like the nice weather just not the heat that goes along with it.  Still its time these legs saw some daylight....

Caring Hearts Card Drive.

I haven't done this before but the Caring Hearts Drive is in its 6th year.  It is an annual campaign run by Vera Yates and Jennifer McGuire.  For more information click HERE.  Its a wonderful opportunity to give a little something back.  Now I could have sent my cards to an address in Australia but I decided it might bring someone an extra smile to receive a card from way down here so am sending them to Vera.  I made a bunch of these in a production line and really enjoyed it.  I hand wrote a message in each one (after I decided in the first one a stamped sentiment was just not personal enough) and hope they bring a little joy to an elderly recipient.  It has enticed me to make another set for a local rest home where my sisters mother in law spent her last days.  Its true kindness is contagious.

Stick together through thick or thin

Its time for a new challenge at Southern Girls.  If you guessed from the criptic title its all about ribbon, tape or twine.  That's what we'd like to see on your creations this time around.

We have a wonderful sponsor who creates the most gorgeous digi stamps Ching-Chou Kuik.  The image I used is called Garden Daisy Fairy.  I coloured her in pencil cutting an extra daisy to pop on the bottom.  The paper and sentiment is from Lili of the Valley.  I added a seam binding ribbon in white, mainly because all the other colours I tried just overpowered the card.  Finishing touch was some Pretty Pink Posh enchanted garden sequins.

Forest Friends

I made this card for a tic tac toe challenge that is coming up on Stamping Smile Designs.  Ka is looking for some people to kick start her new challenge blog.  Its going to be fun,  because Tic tac toe is always fun, right!!  

I chose the three vertical squares for my card, Forest Friends, Leaves and Twine.  The little deer is from Gerda Steiner Designs and the paper is Lili of the Valley.  I added a little bit of sparkle with sequins and glitter.  Finished it off with some twine and a little mushroom charm.

Little Fishes....

It's all happening at Lili of the Valley, it's so exciting.  There is a new launch about to hit and it is just super duper cute.  If you like LOTV you are going to love these new stamps.  If you are in the UK they will be launched at the NEC in Birmingham  5th - 8th November otherwise online is scheduled for the 10th November.  I warn you start saving!!!

Here is a little sneak using "Little Fishes".  It's a shaker card using one of the sentiments that comes with the stamp in the background of the bubble.  I inked more bubbles in the background using a stencil and added some clear droplets.  Inside the shaker is a mixture of sequins some I glued to the background so they aren't all in the bottom of the shaker.   These are two of the "fishes" on the stamp which I coloured and very carefully fussy cut....a bit of a challenge but well worth the effort.  The paper in the background is from Bonnets & Bowties and Promises solids.

Having a laugh!!

I had fun making this card.  It's the last Paper Smooches Sparks challenge, so I thought I'd have some fun.  I do love Chubby Chums and this is the cow in the set...he went a little crazy.  The challenge is a sketch and this was not what I was planning on doing but this is how it turned out.  I think that sentiment is perfect with all those crazy cows.

It's a shame to see the "Sparks" Challenge go, but I am looking forward to the new challenges that start on the 1st November on the Paper Smooches blog.  They are sure to be great.

"Cuppa" thinking of you

I do enjoy a lovely cup of tea, generally fruit or herbal these days since I cut down my dairy intake and can't enjoy a "cuppa" without milk.  I do try once a day to have a cup of tea and do nothing else.  Its a little time to gather my thoughts in what is otherwise a busy life.

This is "Odd Dog" from Lili of the Valley.  He was part of a launch a few months back and I hadn't gotten around to colouring him.  There are 8 versions of him, all super cute.  I fussy cut him out and popped him up with foam dots, stamping the steam from his cuppa in the background.  After playing around with lots of options I ended up keeping him quite simple.

This little guy...

He's pretty cute right.  I played around stamping him on card to form my background paper.  No need to mask as I just stamped him in rows, pretty easy and pretty effective.  I then coloured an extra one up to pop on top.  It's Anything Goes at Paper Smooches this week so I'm going to pop "this little guy" into the challenge.  He's from the Chubby Chums set and the sentiment is from the uplifters set.

Reindeer Trio

Recently Lili of the Valley launched 6 new sets of Christmas Trio rubber stamps.  As I was looking for a stamp to use for my October Design Collective card, being lazy and standing on tiptoes rather than taking the box down, the Reindeer set fell out so I decided to use them.  I coloured them up in non traditional Christmas colours, a combination falling rather into the Halloween category than Christmas.  Halloween doesn't really happen here but I do think the purple and orange combo is a great one.

I gathered inspiration from a few different places for this card.  Firstly from Kathy at the Daily Marker who recently coloured a background in dark colours, something I wouldn't normally do and okay I didn't go overboard but had the confidence to try something new.   Secondly the new challenge at Sparkle and Shine, which happens to be purple and orange sparkly pumpkins. Whilst I don't have a pumpkin in sight, the reindeers are round in shape, like pumpkins and I used purple and orange with gold foil and Pretty Pink Posh sequins for sparkle. Also stacked my reindeers.  Well it is interpretational....anyway you decide.

Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge is also a similar palette so I am going to pop this in there too.

No Fall celebrations going on here....

Well its a little hard to celebrate fall when its spring on this side of the world.  A lot of our trees are native here and evergreen so we don't get the spectacular fall displays like you do in the Northern Hemisphere.  Don't get me wrong we do have trees that change colour and loose their leaves, but nothing like what I have seen in Canada.

Its a picture challenge at Paper Smooches this week and I always find it interesting to see how others interpret the picture compared to myself.  I used Paper Smooches feathers die in fall colours and kept my background white with a little embossed panel under the leaves (feathers).  I then added the sentiment from PS Flap Happy, which just seemed appropriate, and some Pretty Pink Posh sequins ironically called Tropical days for that finishing touch.  So here is the inspiration photo.......

Feathers feathers everywhere...

I have been away for the best part of the week but I took my colouring away with me along with some pre stamped images.  I took eight 15 year olds away to Rotorua here in NZ.  We caught the coach there and back and had the best time.  Its such a great age as they can do things on their own, I just need to be around if they need me and to make sure things run smoothly.   This is the second time I have done this and they are already planning the next trip.  We are creating such amazing memories.

Anyway one of the little images I managed to colour is this little chickie from Paper Smooches Chubby Chums. The Paper Smooches Sparks Challenge this week is Anything Goes.  I had a bit of fun with this.  Using Paper Smooches feather die I cut several feathers and popped them onto my background.  I had already decided to use the frame to make a shaker, the sentiment is stamped in white and maybe it should have been black but I have trouble getting acetate here so decided to go with it as it was already stamped.  The chickie is behind the frame because original idea was to have his feet poking out at the bottom but it was quite a stretch and looked kind of silly.

Daisy Fairy

Its time for a new challenge at Southern Girls.  We have two wonderful sponsors, Little Claire and Ching-Chou Kuik.

The image I used is from Ching-Choe Kuik and is called Garden Daisy Fairy.  She is such a sweetie.  I coloured her in pencil and printed an extra daisy which I popped up at the bottom.  The sentiment "Dreams are Magical" and the paper is from Lili of the Valley.  Finished off with White seam binding (all the other colours I tried just overpowered the image and I wanted her to be the focus).  Lastly a few Enchanted Garden sequins from Pretty Pink Posh.

Celebrate with Southern Girls

The theme for our new challenge at Southern Girls is "Celebration".

I guess the obvious celebrations coming up for many are Halloween and Christmas.  Here in New Zealand we don't really celebrate Halloween.  Although I do have a basket of sweets at the front door, we might get 2 maybe 3 lots of trick or treaters, if we are lucky.  I know its a big thing in the States and the confectionery companies did try and bring it in here a few years back but it just never took off.

Off course there are many other celebrations including Christmas, birthdays, a new baby, anniversaries, graduations and my choice, celebrating a new home.

I used an image from one of our lovely sponsors, Art by Miran called "cute window illustration".  I coloured the window frame and shutters in grey, cut out the window glass and backed it with a small square of paper. Then hand cut some little pots to sit on the window sill and popped a flower into each.  I added foam tape to the window with a double layer to the shutters for extra dimension.  The sentiment is a combination of die cut and computer generated.  Sequins add a little sparkle to the otherwise plain background.

Sequin Overload....

Yes I do admit I may just have lost the plot when it comes to sequins, but I do love them.  They are such happy, shiny little things.

Ok its officially Day 3 of the 30 Day Colouring Challenge,  three for three, feeling pretty good.  I am away for a few days, taking the kids to Rotorua.  When I say kids I mean my two and six of their friends, that would be eight, 15 year olds.  Some people say I am crazy (hey I think that's a song) but I am making memories for us all and I know that we will have a great time.  I did it last year and it was just great.  I have stamped some images and have my colouring pencils packed ready to go to keep the momentum going, hoping of course I get a little bit of free time.

Anyway yesterday I watercolored some card with the intention of doing something completely different but I didn't like it as a background.  In the middle of the night I made this card in my mind with circles. Didn't really like the circles so they ended up cut to bits too.  So here we have take three, a watercolour garden.  The background paper has made such pretty flowers.

The watercolour inspiration comes from the latest Challenge at Sparkle and Shine.  I just love how they encourage you to use sequins.  The ones I have used are from Pretty Pink Posh, Summer Mix.

You're Purrrfect

Actually its the 3rd of October here so my day 3 for the 30 Day Colouring Challenge hosted by the super talented Kathy from The Daily Marker.  Its quite handy really being a day ahead as I already have my day 3 colouring done and ready to post.

I coloured this little image with the latest challenge at Paper Smooches in mind.  I hadn't intended going black and white but that is where I ended up.  The stamps I used including the sentiment and paw print are from the Chubby Chums Set.  Yesterday I posted a card using some little cuties that peep over things which is how I came about the kitty popping out of the die cut note paper, just playing around a bit really.  I gold foiled the paw prints just for fun.

You should pop on over to the Paper Smooches site as their October release has some very lovely things, my favourite is the ugly christmas sweater, which I wish came as a single stamp.  We don't do white elephants or cookie exchanges down here so its hard to justify buying a set for one stamp.  (that's what I'm telling myself anyway). Definitely an opportunity for an ugly sweater set I'm thinking.

Forest Friends

The latest challenge theme at The Card Concept is Forest Friends, inspired by a very cute image.  When I saw this it gave me the perfect excuse to use a stamp set from Create a smile Stamps that I haven't used before....don't really know why as its super cute.

The style I have used is Clean and Layered (I think) I coloured the little critters with no line and popped up the bear and part of the mole.  The sentiment is from the same stamp set.  I then added a strip of paper that resembles a tree truck and a die cut tied line and a few sequins.  Think I will be using this stamp set a bit more now.

Cathy from the Daily Marker has also just started a new 30 Day Colouring Challenge, you should go and see what she did with a Starbucks cup.  I am going to try to colour every day...yikes did I actually say that...well it is a challenge!!!

Calendar Fairy

Today I am sharing another Lili of theValley Calendar Fairy.  This one is July.  I really don't know which one is my favourite as they are just all so lovely (not that I have them all, unfortunately).

I decided to go purple with this one as its not a colour I use often, but I do like purple hues.  You can't really see from the photo but her wings are all shimmery as is the middle layer of her dress.  I also added some little white flowers to her dress.

I had a couple of stamp attempts that I wasn't happy with so I cut some of the flowers out and popped them onto her bouquet and used some of the others along the top.  You know I have this little sequin obsession at the moment.... so added some sequin flowers as a finishing touch.

Green Ombre

I discovered a new challenge blog called Sparkle and Shine Challenge.  A challenge blog for sequin lovers, given this is my new go to embellishment I decided I would make a card to enter.

Green is not one of my go to colours and the theme for this challenge was green inspired.  Oh my goodness this card has been sitting in pieces on my desk all week.  I knew where I wanted to go with this but it just wasn't going to plan.

I was out pruning in the garden when all of a sudden I had an idea...I had already played around making an ombre effect with strips of green card-stock, but my greens just weren't blending how I wanted.  Who said ombre had to be plain colours why not patterned paper??? ..... That was my lightbulb moment.  

I raced inside and pushed aside the green card-stock and pulled out 6 green patterned papers cut them into strips and made the background.  Fortunately I had the flowers and frame precut as when double checking the blog I realised I had 59 minutes to pull this together and photograph and blog it....no pressure....yikes!!  SO by the skin of my teeth and being the last entry for the challenge here is my card.

Now I can finish pruning.

August Fairy

Recently Lili of the Valley released a set of Calendar fairies, obviously there are 12 of them.  This is the fairy representing August.  I love how it doesn't really matter where you live, you could easily make a calendar to suit your seasons by changing the fairies around.   The month/season sentiments are a separate stamp set.  That said the sentiment I have used on this card is from the Fairy Sentiments set. I also like how you can use the fairies individually.  For us in the Southern hemisphere August could so easily be used as a christmas fairy, as going to the beach is what we do at christmas time,  given it's our summer holidays.

I had fun with this little cutie.  I have used glossy accents and glitter on her.  The papers are from Up Up and Away, Country Meadow and Sunnyside Up.   I know I have said it before, but I do love how the paper collections from LOTV are so interchangeable and work together so well.  My new favourite embellishment, Pretty Pink Posh Sequins, add that finishing touch.

Loose watercolouring

Well at least its my version of loose watercolouring.  I did find it a little hard to go out of the lines so my "loose" is a little deliberate.  It was fun to do though and I am sure the more you practice the looser you become.

It's an anything goes challenge this week at Paper Smooches.  Both the butterflies and the sentiment are from Paper Smooches, flap happy and uplifters stamp sets.  The background butterflies are simply stamped, using MFT kraft hybrid ink and watercoloured.  I then die cut one and added gold foil around the edge.  I also cut a separate one from gold foil to place underneath, so you get a glimpse of gold under the wings. Finally stamped and foiled the little hearts and picked out sequins in matching colours ( from a few Pretty Pink Posh mixes) and added them here and there.

I had fun making this card so hope you like it, I do, however, think it looks better in person.

Happy Holidays

A couple of posts back I featured one of the new Reindeer Trio stamps from Lili of the Valley.  Today i have a card using the complete trio.  It's great that you can choose to use all three or a combination or just one by itself.  There are 6 Christmas Trio sets and they have sold out twice now.  They are back in stock so be quick before they all go again.

The paper I used is from the LOTV Pastel Dreams collection with a brown from the Always and Forever Solids pad. I am a liking a touch of gold at the moment added with the sentiment and a few sequins to add the finishing touch.

Christmas is something like 97 days away....not sure how that happened.

Rock Star

I'm back playing at Paper Smooches Sparks challenge.  I have missed a couple of weeks unfortunately.  This week it is a picture inspiration which really had me thinking hard.  I don't know where Paper Smooches find these pictures but they are always great to get the creativity flowing.

I used the star die from the PS card booking set, cut using bold colours and added a sentiment from the Uplifters stamp set.  I finished it off with a simple twine bow and some Pretty Pink Posh sequins.  It is really not what I had in mind for the stars when I started playing with this challenge but I think it worked out better in the end.
